Defending AMLO and Addressing Opposition

During her state report tour, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo defended former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) against what she calls a smear campaign by his opponents due to the loss of their privileges.

“Those who lost their privileges have so much courage that they continue to slander President López Obrador; however, the truth is that they can never slander him because he remains in the hearts of the Mexican people, not in monuments or street names,” Sheinbaum Pardo stated in Mérida, Yucatán.

AMLO’s Children and Legal Challenges

It was recently reported that AMLO’s sons, Andrés Manuel and Gonzalo, have filed amparos to avoid detention in a recently uncovered fiscal fuel theft scheme.

Activists and journalists have revealed that there are at least three amparos related to the issue, aiming to halt any detention orders against them.

Sheinbaum Pardo’s Support for Government Reforms

Sheinbaum Pardo also defended the reforms pushed by her government, specifically praising the recent popular election of judges, magistrates, and ministers as a historic advancement of the Fourth Transformation.

“How can we be authoritarian when we gave the people the opportunity to elect their judges, magistrates, and ministers? On the contrary, we are the most democratic country in the world because it is the only country where the people decide the three Powers of the Union,” she emphasized.
