In May, Claudia Sheinbaum’s average approval rating reached an all-time high of 70.4% since taking office, marking an increase of 8.9% compared to October 2024. The Mitofsky survey for El Economista reveals that women rated her higher (72.2%) than men (68.9%). Younger citizens, specifically those aged 18-29, and individuals with lower educational attainment (high school or less) also gave her better ratings of 73.6% and 74.8%, respectively.

Approval Ratings by Occupation

The survey results indicate that out of twelve occupational categories, eight showed an increase in approval ratings from April to May, while four experienced a decrease. The unemployed segment saw the highest increase of 3.5%, followed by teachers with a 3.4% rise and farmers with a 2.3% improvement.

Approval Ratings by Federal Entity

Out of Mexico’s 32 federal entities, 18 reported an increase in approval ratings for Sheinbaum, 13 showed a decrease, and Oaxaca maintained its rating at 82.6%, the highest in the country.

Sinaloa registered the lowest approval rating at 50.9%.

Key Concerns

Of the 41,183 respondents, insecurity was identified as the primary concern, with 61.2% citing it as a significant issue—a 5.9% increase from September 2024, the last month of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration. Furthermore, 80.7% of respondents perceived corruption as either “much” or “regular.”

Economic Perceptions

Regarding the economic situation, 36.8% of respondents believed it remained unchanged, while 33.1% saw improvements, and 28.9% perceived it as worsening. The remaining 1.2% did not respond.
