Cold Front 32 Moves into the Caribbean Sea

Although Cold Front 32 has moved into the Caribbean Sea and no longer directly affects the national territory, its Arctic air mass continues to influence weather conditions this weekend. This maintains cold to very cold temperatures during mornings and nights, along with fog and a “North” event in various regions of the country, according to the National Weather Service (SMN) forecast.

Rain Expected in Western, Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Regions

For Sunday, showers and heavy rain are forecast for southern and eastern states. Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Veracruz zones will experience more intense precipitation, while Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Estado de México, Puebla, Hidalgo, Tabasco, and Chiapas will have scattered showers. Isolated rain is also expected in central states, including Mexico City.

These rains could be accompanied by thunderstorms and cause waterlogging, river and stream level increases, and landslides in sloping areas.

Strong North Winds Continue in Southern and Southeastern Regions

The “North” event remains active. In the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, intense gusts of wind are expected, while in the Yucatan Peninsula and Gulf states, strong gusts will persist. There will also be high waves along the southern coast of the Gulf of Mexico and the southeast.

These gusts could bring down trees and billboards, so authorities advise taking extra precautions.

Freezing Temperatures at Dawn in High-Altitude Areas

Minimum temperatures will remain very low in northern, central, and eastern mountainous areas of the country. Freezing is expected in the Mesa del Norte and Mesa Central mountainous regions, as well as in high-altitude areas of central states. In contrast, warm to hot maximum temperatures will continue along the southern Pacific and western coasts.

When Does Cold Front 33 Enter?

According to the SMN, Cold Front 33 will approach and enter Mexico’s northern border by Tuesday. Thereafter, during Wednesday and Thursday, it will advance towards the northeast, east, and southeast, causing another drop in temperatures, heavy rains, and a reinforcement of the “North” event.

By Thursday, very strong to intense rains are expected in eastern and southeastern entities, along with strong winds along the Gulf coast, the Yucatan Peninsula, and the Tehuantepec Isthmus. There is even a possibility of snow or sleet on the peaks of central and eastern high-altitude volcanoes and mountains.
