Key Regions Affected by Intense Precipitation and Adverse Wind Conditions

Frigid Front 32 will dominate Mexico’s weather this weekend, causing heavy rainfall, strong winds, elevated sea conditions, and a significant drop in temperatures across various regions, according to the latest advisory from Mexico’s National Weather Service (SMN).

Heaviest Rains in the Gulf and Southeast

On Saturday, January 31st, the front will move over Mexico’s southeastern region and the Yucatan Peninsula, bringing very strong to intense rainfall (75 to 150 mm) in:

  • Veracruz (particularly Los Tuxtlas and Olmeca regions)
  • Oaxaca
  • Chiapas
  • Tabasco

These precipitations could lead to increased river and stream levels, landslides, waterlogging, and flooding in low-lying areas, warns the SMN.

Continued Showers and Strong Rains on Sunday

On Sunday, February 1st, although the intensity will slightly decrease, showers and strong rains are expected in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, and some areas of Guerrero.

Strong Winds and Elevated Sea Conditions

The Arctic air mass driving the front will cause a very strong to intense “Norte” event in:

  • Veracruz
  • Istmo and Gulf of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca and Chiapas)
  • Tabasco
  • Campeche
  • Yucatán
  • Quintana Roo

Wind gusts of up to 100–120 km/h are expected in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, and wave heights of 4 to 6 meters are forecast. Along Veracruz’s coast, wave heights could reach up to 5 meters. These conditions pose risks for navigation, port activities, and coastal zones.

Marked Cold and Frost in the North and Center

Along with heavy rains, Frigid Front 32 will bring a significant temperature drop with frost in the high-altitude areas of the Northern and Central Plateaus.

  • Chihuahua
  • Coahuila
  • Nuevo León
  • Durango
  • Zacatecas
  • Estado de México
  • Puebla
  • Hidalgo
  • Tlaxcala
  • Veracruz
  • Oaxaca

There’s also a possibility of freezing rain or snow on mountain peaks above 3,800 meters, including Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl, Pico de Orizaba, and Cofre de Perote.
