Weather Systems to Impact Large Portions of the Country

The National Weather Service (NWS) and Civil Protection have issued warnings for a challenging weekend across much of the country due to the interaction of Cold Front 4, the Mexican monsoon, a cyclonic circulation, and low-pressure channels. These systems will bring heavy rain, hail, lightning, and high waves to various regions.

States with the Most Intense Rainfall

For Friday and Saturday, the NWS forecasts very heavy to intense rainfall in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, Veracruz, Puebla, and Oaxaca. Additionally, heavy rain is expected in Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, San Luis Potosí, the State of Mexico, and Mexico City. The forecast also warns about potential landslides, waterlogging, and rising river and stream levels.

On Sunday, Cold Front 4 will continue to influence the Gulf of Mexico, generating intense to very intense rainfall in Veracruz and Oaxaca, as well as heavy precipitation in the Bajio and central regions like Jalisco, Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Puebla.

Coastal Risks and Hot Conditions in the Southeast

Although Hurricane Narda is moving away from national territory, it will still cause high waves of up to 3 meters along the western coast of Baja California and 1.5 to 2.5 meters along the central Pacific coast.

Despite the cloud cover, hot conditions will persist in the southeast, with temperatures between 35 and 40 °C in Campeche, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Guerrero, and Oaxaca, increasing the risk of heatstroke.

Civil Protection’s Recommendations

The NWS and Civil Protection urge extra caution in mountainous areas, advise against attempting to cross swollen rivers, and recommend staying informed through official channels. Strong winds of up to 70 km/h are expected in the north and northeast, which could lead to dust storms in Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Chihuahua.
