Understanding the Voting Process

Are you prepared to vote in the upcoming Judicial Elections on June 1? The National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Secretariat of Government (Segob) provide a guide on how to cast your vote.

  1. Purple: For judges and justices.
  2. Blue: For magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Federation.
  3. Turquoise: For magistrates of the Judicial Discipline Tribunal.
  4. Salmon: For magistrates of the Regional Chambers of the Electoral Tribunal.
  5. Pink: For Circuit Magistrates.
  6. Yellow: For District Courts.

At the top of each ballot, you’ll find the position for which you’re voting. Below that, you’ll see a list of candidates, alphabetically organized and divided by gender. Women’s candidates will be on the left, and men’s on the right.

Each candidate will be assigned a number preceding their name. The gender of each candidate will be indicated by colored boxes (pink for male candidates and no color for female candidates).

Selecting Your Preferred Candidate

To vote, you’ll need to mark the box corresponding to your preferred candidate’s number. Remember:

  • On the left, vote only for female candidates.
  • On the right, vote only for male candidates.

Gender Distribution in the Elections

For judges and justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, five women and four men will be elected, totaling nine positions.

For magistrates of the Superior Chamber of the Federal Judicial Electoral Tribunal, three women and two men will be chosen, making a total of five. The ballot for this position is turquoise.

Two women and one man will be elected for magistrate positions in the Regional Chambers of the Electoral Tribunal, totaling three. The ballot for this position is salmon-colored.

For Circuit Magistrate and District Court ballots, each will include specialties indicated by color. Each ballot can have up to seven specialties for which you can vote.
