In a morning press conference, the General Director of the ISSSTE, Martí Batres Guadarrama, announced that four infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening the organization’s capabilities are progressing satisfactorily.

The Four Projects

  • Construction of a new Family Medicine Unit (UMF) in Arcelia, Guerrero: This project is 35% complete and will cover 1,200 square meters. With an investment of 15 million pesos, it will benefit over 10,000 beneficiaries in the Tierra Caliente region, offering family and preventive medicine, dental care, pharmacy, archiving, storage, and immunization areas.
  • Establishment of a new Family Medicine Clinic (CMF) in Naucalpan, Estado de México: Construction began in December, investing 138 million pesos in a 3,600 square meter facility. It will include 16 family medicine consultation rooms, two dental clinics, three preventive medicine and family planning rooms, and three more for strengthening first-level care with services like X-rays, ultrasounds, mammography, clinical laboratory, and diabetes management. This will serve 62,473 affiliated members.
  • Demolition of the old General Hospital “Dr. Gonzalo Castañeda Escobar” in Tlatelolco, Mexico City: The demolition is 90% complete with an investment of 44 million pesos. Once finished, a new hospital unit will be built, benefiting over 100,000 beneficiaries in the capital’s north.
  • Inauguration of the first ISSSTE Medical Consultation in Tarímbaro, Michoacán: As part of the Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia, a 24 square meter consultation room was equipped with essential medical equipment and supplies, including five basic medication lines: analgesics, first-line antibiotics, antihypertensives, antidiabetics, and cholesterol-lowering medications.

Importance of Protocols and Empathetic Care

Martí Batres also highlighted the significance of the National Medical Care Protocols (PRONAM) in standardizing patient treatments, ensuring continuity of care regardless of institution changes.

He emphasized the ISSSTE’s commitment to the “Dignified Treatment” strategy, focusing on empathetic, human-centered care. This includes adequate medication supply, sufficient medical personnel, specialists, surgical facilities, and robust hospital infrastructure.
