Benefits Over 20,000 Farmers Across Eight Irrigation Districts
In the context of her recent tour through Chihuahua’s central-south region, Governor Maru Campos announced a historic state investment of 200 million pesos (mdp) for the execution of various infrastructure projects outlined in the State’s Water Infrastructure Plan.
Direct Benefits for More Than 20,000 Farmers
This investment will directly benefit over 20,000 farmers from the eight irrigation districts: 005 Delicias, 009 Valle de Juárez, 042 Buenaventura, 083 Papigochi, 089 El Carmen, 090 Bajo Río Conchos, 103 Río Florido, and 113 Alto Río Conchos.
Infrastructure Projects and Maintenance
The projects encompass rehabilitation, conservation, and maintenance of ditches, wells, roads, canals, paths, and pipelines.
We are launching this program to honor your hard work, our farmers. You have continued the legacy of our ancestors as conquerors of the desert and continue to make Chihuahua a prosperous land,
Governor Campos stated during the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of supporting agricultural efforts.
She further explained that this state investment would free up resources from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) designated for the same purpose.
Moreover, she mentioned a combined investment of over 2.5 billion pesos to enhance the irrigation systems across all state districts, thereby improving water usage efficiency.
Collaborative Efforts and Additional Support
The project involves coordination among various state government departments to implement employment programs, water distribution systems, and technical assistance, benefiting more than 2,400 local families.
Recognition and Gratitude
Secretary of Rural Development, Mauro Parada, praised Governor Campos’s foresight and commitment to initiating this program, which will address more than 200,000 hectares of crops across the eight irrigation districts.
“I want to thank you for setting an example nationwide that water can be managed effectively in the desert,” said Parada.
