Collaborative Effort to Protect Migrant Children’s Rights
In a joint effort to ensure the rights of migrant children, the National System for the Integral Development of the Family (SNDIF) and the Hidalgo DIF system inaugurated an albergue for accompanied and unaccompanied girls, boys, and adolescent migrants in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
Government Commitment to Protect Vulnerable Populations
This project is part of the Mexican government’s commitment, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to protect those who need it most and ensure no one is left behind.
Opening Ceremony Highlights
During the opening ceremony, with the presence of Hidalgo Governor Julio Menchaca and SNDIF Patronato President Edda Vite Ramos, SNDIF head María del Rocío García Pérez emphasized the importance of this space as a concrete expression of public policies with a human face.
“Today, we witness a public policy with a soul, a face, and a purpose. May this be the beginning of many more actions in favor of safe, ordered, and above all, humane migration,” she stated.
Albergue as a Safe Haven
The new albergue is designed to provide a physical and emotional refuge, offering shelter, food, medical care, legal advice, and psychological support to migrant children. This is done under an integral human rights approach, with social sensitivity and full respect for each person’s dignity.
Coordination Between Government Levels
SNDIF President highlighted the collaborative work between different government levels to address the increasingly complex reality of child migration.
Edda Vite Ramos on Humanitarian Response
Edda Vite Ramos, SNDIF Patronato President, affirmed that the albergue is a humanitarian response recognizing every child’s right to live in safe environments, regardless of nationality or migration status.
“All migrants, whether foreigners, displaced persons, or in motion within the country and Hidalgo state, will find here a safe place to rest and eat,” she declared.
Albergue’s Dual Purpose
Besides supporting migrant children, the albergue will offer temporary assistance to Hidalgo families affected by natural disasters or other emergencies, reinforcing its solidarity and service vocation.
