Introduction to the Initiative by Claudia Sheinbaum

On Thursday morning, the Mexican government announced the launch of the first 15 “Polos de Desarrollo Económico para el Bienestar” (Economic Development Poles for Well-being). These poles aim to stimulate investment, create jobs, regulate urban growth, and promote an environmentally-focused industrial model.

Key Figures and Collaboration

Accompanied by 14 state governors and governors (Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Sonora, Quintana Roo, Estados de México, Sinaloa, Guanajuato, Puebla, Chihuahua, Michoacán, Campeche, Hidalgo, and Durango), President Claudia Sheinbaum explained that these poles will combine industrial zones with residential, educational, and healthcare infrastructure to ensure comprehensive and sustainable growth.

Objectives and Strategies

Sheinbaum emphasized the goal of attracting manufacturing and service companies while respecting environmental, energy, and infrastructure conditions. The poles aim to meet the environmental, natural resource, energy, and infrastructure requirements in different regions of the country.

During the press conference, Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard detailed that these poles will offer unprecedented tax incentives to attract both domestic and foreign investment. Key incentives include immediate 100% deduction on new fixed asset investments, an additional 25% deduction for training programs, and another 25% deduction for research and innovation activities.

Strategic Sectors

Ebrard Casaubón highlighted the priority sectors for these poles: agroindustrial, aerospace, automotive, consumer goods, pharmaceutical and medical devices, electronics and semiconductors, energy, chemical and petrochemical, textile, footwear, and circular economy.

The initial projects will be distributed across the following locations: Campeche, Chihuahua (Ciudad Juárez), Durango, Estado de México (Nezahualcóyotl), Guanajuato (Celaya), Hidalgo (circular economy and IFA), Michoacán (Morelia), Puebla (Ciudad Modelo), Quintana Roo (Chetumal), Sinaloa (Topolobampo), Tamaulipas (Altamira), Tlaxcala (Huamantla), Veracruz (Tuxpan), and Sonora (Hermosillo).
