Government Allocates Funds for Social Infrastructure in 370 Indigenous Communities

Morelia, Michoacán, June 24, 2025 – As part of public policies driven by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the federal government will allocate $467.7 million in direct budget for 370 indigenous communities in Michoacán.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla Announces the Allocation

Michoacán’s governor, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, informed that the funds from the Fondo de Aportaciones a la Infraestructura Social de los Pueblos Indígenas y Afromexicanos (Faispiam) can be used for basic social infrastructure projects.

“This is a social justice act. The president fulfills the constitutional reform to Article 2, which establishes the direct delivery of public budget resources to indigenous peoples and Afro-Mexican communities,” said the Morenista.

He detailed that the benefiting communities from 57 municipalities can invest the funds in projects such as potable water, sewage systems, drainage, toilets, urbanization, electrification, basic educational and health infrastructure, and housing improvement.

Strengthening Autogovernance and Social Development

Ramírez Bedolla emphasized that this policy, which supports and recognizes autogovernance and direct budgeting, enhances the strategy already implemented by the state of Michoacán. It contributes to eradicating social lag and improving the quality of life for inhabitants of Purépecha, Mazahua, Nahua, Pirinda, Afro-Mexican, Otomi, Matlatzinca, and pluricultural communities.

He added that this has positioned Michoacán as a national example, with 45 indigenous communities adopting the autogovernance model and accessing greater benefits. By early 2025, $129.2 million had been allocated for social development, infrastructure, community strengthening, and direct access to public resources without intermediaries.
