Introduction to the Reforestation Efforts in Michoacán

Morelia, Michoacán, June 9, 2025. As part of its 2025 reforestation campaign, Michoacán will plant 10 million trees this season, with two million designated for the Pátzcuaro lake basin to continue rescue efforts.

Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla’s Announcement

Michoacán’s governor, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, revealed that the 10 million plants were produced in state nurseries, marking a historic number not seen in the past decade.

Campaign Kickoff and Focus Areas

The reforestation campaign will commence this week in Uruapan, where 70,000 trees will be planted in the urban area as part of environmental remediation actions accompanying the teleférico construction, with a state investment of 3 billion pesos.

Ramírez Bedolla explained that the plants are suitable for various climates and will primarily be allocated to Protected Natural Areas (ANP) and zones affected by forest fires.

Innovative Reforestation Techniques

This year, the Forest Commission of Michoacán has adopted new reforestation techniques, such as dispersing seeds in forested areas using drones where ground access is challenging.

Last year, the Michoacán government planted 1.5 million trees to reforest the Pátzcuaro lake basin, one of the country’s most significant, which has recovered from climate impacts and water theft.
