Introduction to Key Figures and Initiatives

On this Wednesday, the State and Municipal Councils for Peace were installed in Morelos to foster collaboration between society and the government in building peace at a local level, with justice, community participation, and dialogue. The event took place at the Teopanzolco Cultural Center Auditorium in Cuernavaca, with Secretary of Government, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, in attendance.

Morelos joins Chihuahua, Sonora, and Nayarit in implementing these councils. The initiative is part of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, emphasizing that peace is achieved through proximity, justice, and institutions that listen and act alongside the people. The National Security Strategy prioritizes addressing the causes of violence in specific regions through universal social programs, on-the-ground work, disarmament actions, assistance to the most vulnerable, and collaboration among authorities at all levels of government and various institutions.

Key Components of the Initiative

  • Universal Social Programs: Implementing programs that benefit the entire population.
  • Territorial Work: Direct engagement with communities to understand their needs and concerns.
  • Disarmament Actions: Efforts to reduce violence through the collection and destruction of firearms.
  • Assistance to the Vulnerable: Providing support through Ferias de Paz (Peace Fairs) and Tianguis del Bienestar (Well-being Markets).
  • Collaboration Among Authorities: Uniting efforts from federal, state, and local governments, as well as various institutions.

Additional initiatives include deploying personnel in communities, integrating students into the process, offering medical services, advising youth about drug risks, incorporating social programs for those without access, revitalizing public spaces, and promoting culture and sports.
