Over 1 Million Youth Across Mexico Participate in National Tequios for Peace and Against Addiction

Background on the Event

On Wednesday, more than 1 million young people from all over Mexico took part in the National Tequios for Peace and Against Addiction, an initiative led by the Mexican Institute of Youth (IMJUVE). The event brought together youth from all 32 states to simultaneously engage in activities aimed at transforming their communities.

Scope and Participation

In over 1,200 municipalities across all states of Mexico, more than 10,000 locations reported activities such as cleaning parks, painting playgrounds, reforestation of green areas, dredging rivers, collecting trash from beaches, and creating murals.

  • State of Mexico: Youth gathered to clean up certain areas, removing litter and debris.
  • Puebla: Participants focused on painting fences and walls, enhancing the local aesthetics.
  • Chiapas: Groups cleared areas clogged with dry leaves, improving pedestrian walkways.
  • Quintana Roo: Alongside beach clean-ups, youth also dredged common river areas.

The IMJUVE collaborated with key strategic partners, including the Secretariats of Governance, Labor and Social Security, Public Education, Welfare, Culture, Environment and Natural Resources, the National Water Commission, the National Sports and Physical Culture Commission, state governments, CONALEP, TecNM, IPN, and various public and private educational institutions.
