International Event Celebrating Cancún’s 55th Anniversary and Promoting Well-being through Sports Tourism
Cancún, Mexico – With the participation of 1,035 cyclists, including 228 women and 807 men, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa kicked off L’etape Cancún By Tour de France at Malecón Tajamar. The event aims to promote tourism through sports, enhancing the well-being of Quintana Roo residents.
This international event arrived in Mexico in 2016 and has since expanded with additional stages across the country, including Cancún. This year’s event coincides with Cancún’s 55th anniversary, featuring two routes: a short 60 km and a long 115 km.
Welcoming Cyclists from Around the World
Before giving the starting signal, Governor Mara Lezama, accompanied by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, the honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, welcomed cyclists from Germany, Argentina, Canada, Cuba, Italy, the United States, and Mexico.
Mexican cyclists hail from Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Coahuila, Durango, Estado de México, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
Quintana Roo is represented by 395 cyclists, consisting of 79 women and 316 men.
Governor’s Message
“Thank you, cyclists, for being an inspiration to many athletes. Today, we demonstrate that Quintana Roo is an excellent destination for sports tourism,” expressed Governor Mara Lezama from the starting line, accompanied by Jacobo Adrián Arzate Hop, president of the Sports Commission of Quintana Roo, and Alejandro Luna López, the Director of Sports in Benito Juárez.
