Culiacán, Sinaloa, July 2, 2025 – In a ceremony to honor hundreds of university athletes, their coaches, and medical staff, Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, alongside the rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa (UAS), Jesús Madueña Molina, presented economic incentives and recognitions to 181 university athletes who won medals at the ANUIES 2025 National University Sports Championships. Additionally, 48 coaches and 10 medical professionals were recognized for their contributions to the athletes’ preparation and success in sports events.

He further highlighted the importance of sports in universities, particularly at UAS, where it is considered a substantial activity complementing academics and fostering the development of citizens with strong values and excellent professionals.

Governor Rocha Moya specifically acknowledged silver medalist Marco Verde, a UAS boxer who recently turned professional after competing in the 2025 Paris Olympics.

Two-Hour Recognition Ceremony

For over two hours, Governor Rocha Moya personally presented the recognitions and economic incentives to all 181 medalists, emphasizing team sports like volleyball, soccer, track and field, baseball, and softball. He recognized entire teams as single medalists.

The state government, under Governor Rocha Moya’s leadership, doubled the UAS budget for economic incentives. A total of 3,469,000 pesos were distributed, with half (1,732,000 pesos) contributed by the Sinaloa Sports Institute, in the presence of its director, Julio César Cascajares Ramírez.

Rector Jesús Madueña Molina welcomed Governor Rocha Moya, recalling his previous tenure as UAS rector (1993-1997) when he significantly advanced university sports.
