Key Investment in Nayarit’s Healthcare Infrastructure

During a working visit to Nayarit, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero inspected the construction of the Hospital de Alta Especialidad IMSS Bienestar in Tepic. This strategic project, valued at over 2,400 million pesos (approximately $123 million USD), will significantly improve public health access for 640,000 residents without social security.

Hospital Features and Impact

  • The hospital will have 120 beds, 23 consultation rooms, six operating theaters, and specialties including cardiology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, psychiatry, gynecology, and obstetrics.
  • It will also function as a Medical School, training professionals in over 15 medical specialties.

Collaborative Efforts for Healthcare Equity

Governor Navarro Quintero emphasized his commitment to closing healthcare disparities and ensuring universal medical care for the most vulnerable:

“We will ensure that the system for the poor runs against the system of those with money, and we will win. We will ensure that everyone has access to healthcare.”

President Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed her dedication to a dignified and accessible healthcare system for all Mexicans:

“Every day, we work towards a better healthcare system because the Mexican people deserve it. This great, wonderful, generous people who have given so much to their country, who have been mistreated, and whose government is now committed to education, healthcare, housing, and fulfilling the Constitution to build and uphold all the people’s rights in Mexico.”

Recognition and Additional Initiatives

Sheinbaum praised the progress in Nayarit under Governor Navarro’s leadership:

“Nayarit is a different place since Dr. Navarro arrived,” she said, also commending Dr. Beatriz Estrada Martínez, President of the Nayarit DIF system, for her relentless efforts to improve family well-being.

Strengthening Community Health Programs

The working visit also highlighted the reinforcement of the Salud Casa por Casa and primary care programs, focusing on preventive, accessible, and comprehensive healthcare models.

Investments in Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Communities

Sheinbaum and Navarro Quintero pledged to invest directly in indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities through the FAISPIAM (Fondo de Aportaciones para la Infraestructura Social para Pueblos Indígenas y Afromexicanos) program. In 2025, 97 million pesos (approximately $4.8 million USD) will be allocated for water supply, urbanization, drainage, sewage, and latrines in 57 communities.

Rehabilitation of Key Roadways

The duo also committed to rehabilitating the Ruiz-Mesa del Nayar and Jesús María-Puerto de los Leones roadways, long-awaited by the region’s serrano communities.

Aeropuerto Internacional Tepic-Riviera Nayarit Expansion

During the visit, Sheinbaum and Navarro Quintero toured the Aeropuerto Internacional Tepic-Riviera Nayarit, which is 70% complete. This infrastructure project aims to strengthen the state’s air connectivity, positioning Nayarit as a national tourism reference and attracting new investments.
