SEDUMA Aims to Replicate Successful Models for Sustainable Economic Transition

In alignment with the environmental policy championed by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, the Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment (SEDUMA) in Tamaulipas is actively pursuing new alliances and models to bolster the path towards decarbonization and sustainable business practices, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable economic model.

SEDUMA’s Initiatives for a Sustainable Future

Karina Lizeth Saldívar Lartigue, the head of SEDUMA, announced that the goal is to replicate successful programs implemented in other states as part of a collaborative effort with the federal government to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change impacts. One such initiative is the Business Alliance for Climate.

“With foresight, cooperation, and science, we are advancing towards a sustainable economic model that not only protects our planet but also creates opportunities for the people of Tamaulipas,” emphasized Saldívar Lartigue.

Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

During the Carbon Forum Mexico 2025 in Tampico, Saldívar Lartigue met with Sergio Humberto Graf Montero, the General Director of the National Forest Commission (CONAFOR). Graf Montero proposed connecting with Paola Bauche Petersen, the Secretary of Environment and Territorial Development in Jalisco, to learn about strategies adaptable to the Tamaulipas context.

Multi-departmental Approach for Comprehensive Solutions

Saldívar Lartigue explained that the initial step involves working transversally with the Secretariat of Economy for comprehensive planning. Subsequently, other departments such as Energy, Agriculture, and Water Resources will be integrated to address the issue holistically and generate tangible actions contributing to emission reductions and bolstering business competitiveness.

The Business Alliance for Climate Program

This collaborative effort between the state government and the productive sector aims to promote climate leadership and transition towards a low-carbon economy by 2050. The initiative seeks to drive sustainable development, encourage green innovation, and meet national and international climate action targets.

The strategy includes creating emission inventories for businesses, developing decarbonization plans grounded in science, progressive implementation, and transparent reporting of results. This approach strengthens public trust and corporate commitment to Tamaulipas’ well-being.
