Friday: Isolated Showers and Warm Temperatures

On November 7, a low-pressure system and a mid-level atmospheric trough will maintain cloudy conditions and showers in the Yucatan Peninsula, Chiapas, Tabasco, and southern Pacific states.

Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo will experience scattered showers and light rain, while the rest of the country will have stable weather with partially cloudy skies and low chances of rain. Daytime temperatures will remain high, with maximums between 35 to 40 °C in northern, western, and Pacific southern states. However, early mornings will bring cooler temperatures, with values near 0 °C in central and northern highland areas like the State of Mexico, Puebla, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, and high-altitude regions of Mexico City.

Saturday: Approaching a New Cold Front

On Saturday, weather conditions will start to change. A new cold front, accompanied by a polar trough, will enter the northern border of the country, causing strong winds in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, along with a slight temperature drop by nightfall.

The south and southeast will continue to see showers, primarily in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, and the Yucatan Peninsula, though with less intensity than on Sunday. The daytime weather will remain warm across most of the territory, especially along the Pacific coast.

Sunday: Cold, Heavy Rains, and a “North” Event

On Sunday, the most severe conditions will occur. The cold front will spread over northeast, east, and southeast Mexico. Its Arctic air mass will cause a significant temperature drop, particularly in northern, northeastern, and central highland states.

Temperatures in the Sierra of Chihuahua and Durango are expected to drop between -10 and -5 °C, while the Valley of Mexico and central states will see mornings between 0 and 5 °C. This system will generate heavy to very heavy rains in Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco, along with showers in Puebla, Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, and Campeche. The Yucatan Peninsula will also experience rain and moderate wind gusts.

A “North” event will be activated, with winds of 60 to 80 km/h along the Gulf and southeastern coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and the Istmo y Golfo de Tehuantepec (Oaxaca and Chiapas), accompanied by high waves and potential maritime impacts. In altiplano states like Coahuila, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Jalisco, and Guanajuato, winds over 60 km/h are also expected.

Recommendations

  • Exercise caution due to strong winds, high waves, and possible coastal flooding in the Gulf and southeastern regions.
  • Dress warmly in anticipation of the temperature drop in northern, central, and highland areas.
  • Avoid crossing rivers, streams, or flooded areas.
  • Follow official alerts from the Mexican National Meteorological Service (SMN) and civil protection authorities.
