Program Expansion and Key Participants
The Mexican federal government’s housing program has increased its goals for the current six-year term due to the inclusion of participants like the Fondo de Vivienda del Issste (Fovissste) and Sociedad Hipotecaria Federal (SHF), according to sector authorities.
Updated Goals
During a conference by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), Edna Vega Rangel, explained that with the addition of these two entities to the scheme, the six-year goal is now as follows:
“This further adjusts the goal to even more favorable conditions,” explained Vega Rangel, who detailed that this expansion is due to the inclusion of Fovissste, which will construct 100,000 homes during the current six-year term, and SHF, which will provide financing for the construction of 100,000 new homes and 250,000 housing improvements.
Progress
According to Vega Rangel, construction work has started in 30 states across the country, resulting in 138,473 homes under construction and preliminary work, broken down as follows:
Construction Progress
- Conavi: 29,902 homes
- Infonavit: 29,805 homes
Preliminary Work
- Conavi: 28,247
- Infonavit: 55,519
Vega Rangel reported that construction work has yet to begin in Chihuahua and Guerrero.
Warning Against Fraud
During her speech, Vega Rangel urged the public not to fall for false promises to access this program, especially those circulating on social media.
“The false notion that access to programs can be obtained through intermediaries is still being spread on social media. This is entirely false,” said Vega Rangel, adding that such fraud can be reported to [email protected].
Vega Rangel clarified that a digital portal will soon be available, providing all necessary information to access the federal program’s benefits.
