Jalisco: A Culinary and Beverage Paradise

The “Perla Tapatía” is recognized as a gastronomic reference both nationally and internationally, thanks to its diverse dishes with great flavor such as tortas ahogadas, birria, pozole jalisciense, and its beverages.

Jalisco is not only the birthplace and leader in tequila and raicilla production but also produces other types of alcoholic beverages like rum, wine, and beer.

Notable Breweries in Jalisco

Loba, located in the heart of Guadalajara, and Cerveza Fortuna, in Zapopan, are must-visit spots. Here, you can tour their production facilities, observe the brewing process, and sample their beers in a tasting room, guided by an expert.

Loba has been recognized as Mexico’s Best Medium-Sized Brewery in 2016 and the Best Brewery in North America by the International Beer Challenge in 2019. They have also won over 100 awards and recognitions since 2011.

Fortuna, on the other hand, has been honored as Mexico’s Best Brewery in 2019 at the international Aro Rojo cerveza competition. In 2018, it won gold for its Lager Americanas, silver for its Experimental Beers, and gold for its Oatmeal Stout.

Just minutes from Cerveza Fortuna, you’ll find Cerveza Zorra Bistro & Pub Zapopan, a restaurant offering all the local “Zorra” beer varieties, national drinks, wine, cocktails, and a wide gastronomic selection—perfect for a day or night out with friends or your partner.

Beyond Beer: Distilleries and Vineyards

Less than an hour from Guadalajara, you’ll find the Hacienda Navajas in Tala, a sugar cane-rich region. Guided tours, lasting about an hour and a half, allow visitors to explore its centuries-old facilities, learn about the artisanal production of aguardiente and rum, from cultivation to distillation and aging, including tastings.

Amatitán: Tequila Trail and Wine Producer

Amatitán, part of the Tequila Trail, is home to one of Mexico’s oldest tequileras, Hacienda San José del Refugio. Here, you can experience the late 19th-century distillation process. Near the Tapatía city, Amatitán has also become known for its artisanal wines like “Alma Alquimista,” which stands out for its unique, dry, orange, grappa, and natural wines.

Tequila Express: A Unique Experience

Tequila Express is a tourist train offering unlimited tequila, food, and panoramic views between Guadalajara and Tequila. This government-funded, operator-driven proposal aims to promote the tequila experience as a regional attraction.
