Introduction
Mexican companies in sectors such as finance, retail, and manufacturing are embracing technology to automate processes, improve response times, and cut operational costs. According to market data and expert reports, artificial intelligence (AI) is set to reach a market value of $65,391 million in Mexico by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of 33.8% from 2025 to 2030.
AI Adoption and Impact
The AI ecosystem linked to these solutions has seen an accumulated growth of 965% since 2018, generating over 11,000 jobs and attracting investments exceeding $500 million, as reported by Endeavor.
Examples of AI Implementation
- Finance: BBVA Mexico and Banorte have introduced digital customer service assistants, enabling basic tasks to be resolved through automated channels.
- Retail: Companies like Walmart de Mexico and Centroamérica, OXXO (FEMSA), and Grupo Bimbo utilize demand prediction models, inventory management, and logistics route planning. These tools enhance in-store stock levels and minimize product waste.
- Manufacturing: Firms such as CEMEX, Grupo Peñafiel, and Grupo Bafar have integrated data analysis into their production and distribution processes to improve delivery times, prevent manufacturing errors, and adjust production volumes according to demand.
Challenges and Expert Insights
Despite the progress, experts warn of a talent shortage. A study by EY published in June 2025 revealed that Mexico has approximately 10,900 professionals with over two years of experience in AI and analytics, but only 1,100 possess highly specialized skills.
“The main challenge is no longer technological; it lies in execution, data quality, and developing skilled teams,” said Alejandro Zubiria, a business advisor specializing in digital transformation.
Zubiria emphasized that successful companies start with specific use cases, measure early impacts, and standardize processes for controlled scaling. Consulted organizations agree that to capture value, AI developments must be integrated into operational areas rather than isolated projects. The pace of adoption will be crucial in the coming years.
