Introduction to the Marinabús Service in Acapulco
The Marinabús, operated by the Mexican Navy (Semar), has commenced operations in Acapulco with a maritime route connecting the Zócalo to Puerto Marqués, accommodating up to 80 passengers and offering differentiated fares.
Starting Point and Key Locations
The departure point for the Marinabús is located at the Zócalo, Acapulco’s historic and social center. This area is home to the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, various commercial establishments, restaurants, and meeting spaces. The embarkation point at the Zócalo integrates this new mode of transport into Acapulco’s mobility system.
Service Schedule and Capacity
The service begins with the first trip at 7:00 AM from the Zócalo, arriving in Puerto Marqués at 7:45 AM. The last journey departs at 4:30 PM, concluding at 5:15 PM. During this initial phase, there are planned to be 16 daily trips, with eight departures from the Zócalo and eight from Puerto Marqués.
Expansion Plans
Semar has announced that the Zócalo-Puerto Marqués route is merely the first phase of this project. Future plans include expanding the service with additional stops at Icacos, Caleta, and Costera Miguel Alemán, aiming to establish a comprehensive maritime circuit in the bay.
- Frequency Adjustments: The plan includes adjusting frequencies according to demand during peak vacation seasons.
- Complementing Terrestrial Transport: Authorities aim to create a transportation system that complements land-based transit and connects the most popular areas of Acapulco.
