Introduction to Abraham Ancer and LIV Golf
Abraham Ancer, a Mexican golfer, has been part of LIV Golf for three years without losing his essence. He maintains his pre-game routine, continues collecting coins from various countries, and his entrepreneurial spirit drives him to build beyond golf.
LIV Golf’s Impact on Ancer
In June 2022, Ancer signed with LIV Golf, transforming golf into a more financially rewarding experience during the season. This change has led to better earnings for players and more downtime between events, with a schedule of 14 events from February to October.
Ancer’s Routine and Coin Collection
At 34, Ancer understands the balance between his athletic, entrepreneurial, and private life. In an interview at Chapultepec golf course before the third LIV event in Mexico, Ancer confirmed two aspects that remain unchanged over time.
Coins and Routine
Ancer continues to carry a bag filled with coins from the countries he plays in, marking them along the course. His caddie even jokes about the bag’s weight and requests him to carry only the necessary coins.
“Sometimes it’s not three coins, it depends on what’s in the bag that day. I enjoy collecting coins from around the world, regardless of their value. When I have a good week, they end up in my ‘little bag,’ and I collect them as mementos that bring back good vibes from that week.”
Ancer used to study greens with a reading book, but now he takes other measures to plan his strategy without it.
Golf Routine
With 12 years in professional golf, Ancer remains a man of routine. He arrives at the course two hours before tee time, takes half an hour for lunch, goes to the gym, stretches, and dedicates an hour to putting practice before starting.
Ancer’s Business Ventures
Although Ancer could limit his involvement in new projects, he remains eager to find opportunities for his five businesses: Flecha Azul Tequila, Twisted Horns Ridge (home experience), Ombré Men (natural personal care), Monarca Restaurant, and Black Quail Apparel.
Flecha Azul Tequila Expansion
When Ancer started Flecha Azul with partner Arón Márquez, they knew their product was authentic, made from 100% blue agave plants sourced from one of Mexico’s five tequila regions. Along the way, they’ve attracted investors interested in promoting the brand, such as Hollywood star and golf enthusiast Mark Wahlberg, who hosted events in Nevada.
“We’re in advanced talks about expanding Flecha Azul into the Asian market, but we don’t want to just open distribution channels without having enough product. We’re focused on the US, Mexico, Australia, and other markets. We don’t want to grow too quickly and not have enough tequila to meet demand, which could compromise quality. Some companies grow rapidly but lower their tequila quality.”
Ancer’s LIV Golf Standing
Currently, Ancer ranks 13th in the LIV Golf standings. With eight events remaining, including the Mexico City stop.
