Leadership and Attendance Milestones Achieved by Diablos Rojos

Despite the regular season of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) not having concluded, the reigning champions, Diablos Rojos del México, have already secured two significant achievements that provide them with an advantage in the playoffs.

Securing the Lead in Standings

The Diablos Rojos clinched the top spot in the overall LMB standings with eight games to spare. This accomplishment came earlier this week, following their 8-6 victory over the Piratas de Campeche. This result, combined with Sultanes de Monterrey’s 3-5 loss to Caliente de Durango, mathematically confirmed that no other team could surpass Diablos Rojos in the season’s standings.

As of now, Diablos Rojos leads the South Zone with 58 wins and 24 losses, while Sultanes de Monterrey holds the top position in the North Zone with 51 wins and 33 losses.

Being the leader in the regular season grants Diablos Rojos the advantage of closing out any playoff series at home, should they advance. They must overcome the first playoff, zone series, and championship series to achieve this.

This marks the third consecutive season that Diablos Rojos finishes as the overall regular-season leaders. In 2023, they finished with a 55-32 record, and in 2024, they boasted a remarkable 71-19 record.

The leadership from the previous year holds positive memories for the team, as they had Lorenzo Bundy as manager and eventually secured their 17th title, breaking a decade-long drought.

“For the numbers, we have secured our playoff spot and the first place in the South Zone,” Bundy stated before learning they would also be leaders in the overall standings. “I have always believed that we would win the South Division.”

“Now, we are working hard, preparing the team, especially in pitching, to finalize the playoff rotation,” Bundy added.

Playoffs and Attendance Records

The LMB 2025 playoffs are set to commence on August 9, adjusting the original schedule “so that fans from all cities can enjoy the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) opening,” according to league officials.

Attendance Record at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium

In addition to their leadership, Diablos Rojos have set a new attendance record at the Alfredo Harp Helú stadium, with 541,786 fans attending, just five games remaining in the regular season.

This surpasses the 1967 record of 536,743 attendees when they played as home games in the Parque del Seguro Social. The Alfredo Harp Helú stadium debuted as Diablos Rojos’ home in the 2019 season, with a current capacity of 20,062 spectators.

The team’s modern style and diverse culinary and entertainment options have captivated fans in recent seasons. This attendance record will be tested during the playoffs, as Diablos Rojos hopes to maintain strong fan support to defend their title from the previous year.

With three games remaining in the regular season, Diablos Rojos will host the Piratas de Campeche, followed by three games against Olmecas de Tabasco, and conclude the regular season with three away games against Bravos de León.
