Originally established in 1967, the race became official in 1977. No Latin American cyclist had ever won the GP Industria & Artigianato until Del Toro’s victory. The closest Latin American cyclists to winning were Colombia’s Miguel Ángel Rubiano, Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz, and Uruguay’s Thomas Silva, who placed second in 2010, 2017, and 2024, respectively.
