Official Premier League Champions for 2024-25 Season
Liverpool has officially clinched the 2024-25 Premier League title, amassing an impressive 82 points from 34 games after a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield Road.
Unassailable Lead
Although four matches remain in the season, Liverpool’s point tally is uncatchable. Arsenal, their closest rival, trails with 67 points.
Equaling Manchester United’s Record
With this triumph, Liverpool now shares the record for most league titles in English football history with Manchester United, both boasting 20 championships. Arsenal follows with 13, while Manchester City has secured 10.
Historical Significance and Fan Support
An impressive 60,415 fans gathered at Anfield to witness Liverpool’s 20th title. The Reds knew they only needed a draw against Tottenham after Arsenal’s 2-2 stalemate with Crystal Palace earlier in the week.
Match Recap
Despite starting with a 12th-minute goal from Dominic Solanke, Liverpool equalized through Luis Díaz in the 16th minute. By halftime, they had turned the game around to lead 3-1, thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister (24′) and Cody Gakpo (34′).
Mohamed Salah extended his lead in the goal-scoring charts with his 28th goal of the season (63′), and an own goal by Destiny Udogie (69′) sealed the victory.
Salah’s Historic Feat
With his goal against Tottenham, Salah became the fifth-highest individual goal scorer in Premier League history, reaching 185 goals. He now trails only Andrew Cole (187), Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213), and Alan Shearer (260).
“This is Incredible” – Salah
During the celebrations, Salah expressed his joy: “Winning the Premier League here with the fans is something special. It’s much better, at 100%, to celebrate with the fans. Now we have a different team, a different coach. To prove that we can do it again is special.”
He compared this triumph to Liverpool’s 2019-20 title win, which they celebrated without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Salah also acknowledged the change in coaching, with Jürgen Klopp leading the 2020 title and Arne Slot guiding this season’s success.
Debutant Coach Achievement
Arne Slot’s triumph as a debutant coach is only the fifth time in Premier League history. Previously, José Mourinho (Porto, 2004-05), Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea, 2009-10), Manuel Pellegrini (Manchester City, 2013-14), and Antonio Conte (Chelsea, 2016-17) achieved this feat.
Salah praised Slot’s impact: “It has been exceptional. Coming after such a successful and beloved coach, he’s left his own style. The team became more defensive, and counterattacks were even more devastating. What he has accomplished in such a short time is truly extraordinary.”
Upcoming Celebrations and Past Disappointments
Liverpool will celebrate their title again on May 25, receiving the trophy at Anfield against Crystal Palace in their final match of the season.
Though they hold the most titles in the history of England’s top division, Liverpool has only won the Premier League twice. The league format began in 1992-93, with Manchester United leading the pack with 13 titles, followed by City (8), Chelsea (5), and Arsenal (3).
This season, Liverpool secured only the Premier League title among four possible trophies. They were eliminated in the Champions League octafinals by Paris Saint-Germain, in the FA Cup fourth round by Plymouth Argyle, and lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle.
