Emilio González and Alejandro Madariaga Secure Spots in PGA Tour Event

Los Cabos, BCS – The Mexican flag and hope will continue to fly high as the World Wide Technology (WWT) Championship 2025 enters its final stages at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos.

Two Mexican Golfers Advance to Final Rounds

Thanks to Emilio González and Alejandro Madariaga, who both made the cut during Friday’s second round.

Emilio González: A Rising Star in Mexican Golf

González, hailing from San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, finished the second round in T25 with 135 strokes and 9 under par.

Despite dropping more than 10 positions from his performance in the first round, González managed to stay within the cut line. This allows him to continue his game and smiles in Saturday’s and Sunday’s rounds.

González secured his PGA Tour card in mid-October 2025 after finishing in the top 5 of the Korn Ferry Tour. According to the Mexican Golf Federation (FMG), he will be the sixth Mexican golfer to participate in the PGA Tour after earning his spot through the Korn Ferry Tour route.

Alejandro Madariaga Secures a Spot in Dramatic Fashion

Madariaga, from Puebla, made it in dramatic fashion, being -5 at two holes away from finishing his round, just below the -17 set by the leader, German Matti Schmid.

Madariaga achieved five birdies, one eagle, three bogeys, and secured the T65 position alongside ten other golfers with -5 in 139 strokes. He was the last to make it into the list of qualified players for the final rounds.

Mexican Delegation’s Performance at WWT Championship

The remaining Mexican delegation in Los Cabos, consisting of three golfers, said goodbye to the tournament on Thursday: Raúl Pereda, Omar Morales, and Emilio Leyva. Leyva was the only one participating as an amateur.

Morales finished with 142 strokes and 2 under par; Pereda, with 174 and 3 over par; and rookie Leyva, with 149 and 5 over par. Other Latin American golfers who didn’t make the cut were Puerto Rico’s Rafael Campos and Chile’s Cristóbal Del Solar.

The 2023 champion, South African Erik Van Rooyen, along with notable profiles like US Open 2023 winner Wyndham Clark and six-time Europe Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, also failed to advance.

Those who did advance include defending champion Austin Eckroat, current US Open champion and top 10 world ranking golfer JJ Spaun, as well as Latin American players Emiliano Grillo from Argentina and Nico Echavarría from Colombia.

Leadership Shifts in WWT Championship

The leadership changed from American Nick Dunlap to German Matti Schmid, who excelled with seven birdies, one eagle, and zero bogeys from Thursday to Friday.
