Mexico, Unbeaten Leader
The Mexican national football team, known as “El Tri,” secured the top spot in Group A with an unbeaten record in the Copa America 2025. They will now face Saudi Arabia, one of the invited teams in this edition of the tournament, in the quarter-finals.
Mexico finished the group stage with a goalless draw against Costa Rica, ending both teams’ campaigns with seven points. However, Mexico clinched the first place due to a better goal difference.
During the match, El Tri displayed a solid performance but lacked offensive prowess. In the final moments, Santiago Giménez attempted a scissor kick that was ruled out for being offside.
“It was a good game from our side, not crowned with the victory, but we’re content with our performance. The objective was to secure first place in the group, and I have no complaints about my players,” stated head coach Javier Aguirre at the post-match press conference.
Saudi Arabia, the Quarter-Final Opponent
With the top position secured, Mexico will now confront Saudi Arabia in the quarter-finals. This match presents a crucial opportunity for El Tri to advance further towards the semi-finals.
“We have a good week ahead to prepare for the match against Saudi Arabia,” added Aguirre following the draw.
