Introduction to PGA Tour Américas in Mexico City
For the first time, Mexico City will host a tournament in the PGA Tour Américas circuit. The Bupa Championship 2025 will take place from May 8 to 11 at the Club de Golf México, located in the Tlalpan alcaldía.
While Mexico has hosted PGA Tour events since 2007, the new PGA Tour Américas circuit aims to elevate lesser-known talents towards the world’s top tours. The PGA Tour Américas was established in 2024 through the merger of PGA Tour Latinoamérica and PGA Tour Canadá.
Objectives of the New Circuit
The PGA Tour Américas aims to organize 16 tournaments annually, allowing both amateur and professional golfers from the region to accumulate points to reach the Korn Ferry Tour and eventually the PGA Tour.
“This tournament is extremely important as it provides an opportunity for all our professional and some amateur players to continue their journey towards the PGA Tour. It’s the first stop, so it’s incredible to see how many players have expressed interest in participating,” said Fernando Lemmen Meyer, President of the Mexican Golf Federation (FMG), during the Bupa Championship 2025 presentation.
Korn Ferry Tour and its Significance
The Korn Ferry Tour is an international development league that surpasses the regional scope of PGA Tour Américas. It features players who are close to advancing to the PGA Tour or have previously been there but failed to maintain their status.
PGA Tour Américas offers the first of three steps to reach the PGA Tour, with a strong focus on Latin American players. Three of the last four Korn Ferry Tour winners in 2025 played in PGA Tour Américas events in 2024.
Mexico City: A Strategic Hub for PGA Tour Américas
Mexico City is considered a crucial point for the strategic development of PGA Tour Américas, beyond its sports aspect. It offers visibility and commercial connections, according to Alex Baldwin, President of PGA Tour Américas and Korn Ferry Tour, speaking to El Economista.
Business Plan with Mexico City
“Golf has been significant in the business world. It’s a sport that has become part of how relationships are developed. It’s part of strong global brands and a culture. We see that golf is growing rapidly in Mexico, with increasing knowledge of the sport. We are very excited to be here and see its impact on the commercial, golf, and club worlds,” Baldwin explained.
