Introduction

At the conclusion of the 2025 Roland Garros tournament, Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, and Sara Errani celebrated a victory laden with the sweet taste of redemption. Each had experienced heartbreaking losses in Roland Garros finals previously, but they managed to reinvent themselves and claim the top spot despite not being the favorites in singles or doubles.

Coco Gauff’s Singles Triumph

Coco Gauff secured the most attention-grabbing victory by defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the singles final, overcoming a 6-5(7) first set deficit to win 6-2, 6-4. Gauff had previously reached the final in París 2022, losing to Iga Swiatek due to a lack of experience and emotional control.

Gauff recalled her 2022 loss: “I remember the ceremony when Iga won, trying to pay attention so I could experience it one day. When the anthem played, I recalled that moment; it was tough, and I doubted myself, especially mentally.”

Now with three Grand Slam final appearances and two victories against Sabalenka (US Open 2023 and Roland Garros 2025), Gauff has climbed 1,220 ranking points to become the world number two. She stated, “I was truly prepared this time. I told myself, ‘I will give it my all, regardless of the outcome, and be proud of the result.'”

Gauff dismissed Sabalenka’s post-match comments, suggesting she would have beaten Swiatek if they had faced each other in the final. “I don’t agree. The last time I played her, without belittling Iga, I won in three sets. It’s not fair to say that because anything can happen,” Gauff explained.

After breaking a decade-long drought for the US in Roland Garros (Serena Williams’ last victory was in 2015), Gauff now boasts ten career trophies, including four WTA 250 titles, one WTA 500 title, two WTA 1000 titles, one WTA Finals title, and two Grand Slam titles. She has earned €2,550,000 in prize money.

Italian Duo Claims Doubles Title

Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani clinched the Roland Garros 2025 doubles title after defeating Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic and Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.

This victory marked a comeback for Paolini and Errani, who had lost the previous year’s final to Gauff and Katerina Siniakova. The Italian pair reached their first doubles final in January 2022, losing the Melbourne Summer Set 250. However, this marked the beginning of a streak of ten WTA Tour finals with an 80% success rate.

Their pinnacle came in May 2024 when they won the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, propelling them to win the gold medal at the París 2024 Olympics in the same city where they later lifted a Grand Slam trophy.

For Paolini, this victory was especially meaningful as it was her first Grand Slam title, following two singles final losses (Roland Garros 2024 against Iga Swiatek and Wimbledon 2024 against Barbora Krejcikova) and one dobles final loss (Roland Garros 2024). Errani, with five major titles between 2012 and 2014, had three Roland Garros doubles final losses (2013, 2014, and 2024).

“You’re a true inspiration to me; it’s fantastic having you on my team and sharing these moments with you. This is something special; you’re a legend to me,” Paolini told Errani during the title celebrations in París 2025.

Their triumph came with a €590,000 prize for Paolini and Errani, while the runners-up received €295,000.
