Introduction to SECTURjal’s Initiative

The Secretaría de Turismo de Jalisco (SECTURjal) has announced the enhancement of its free tourism route program, which aims to democratize travel opportunities for those who cannot afford them. This initiative, named “Explore Jalisco Style,” will take more than 3,500 Jaliscienses to over 44 destinations across the state in 65 guided, cost-free trips from May to November.

The Need for Such a Program

According to Michelle Fridman, the head of SECTURjal, “There are few programs in the country that can demonstrate the possibility of offering travel opportunities to those who cannot afford a trip. What we lack the most here in Jalisco is a sense of belonging and pride, the ability to share positive stories about Jalisco, and tourism is the best vehicle for sharing these stories and strengthening that sense of identity and belonging.”

Expanding the Program’s Reach

The existing program, which previously catered to groups like senior citizens and outstanding students, now includes indigenous Jaliscienses from original pueblos and individuals with disabilities, as per Rocío Lancaster Jones, the General Director of Promotion at SECTURjal.

Target Groups for Free Trips

  • Spring
  • Children’s Day
  • Outstanding Students
  • Interior to Metropolitan Area
  • Summer
  • Individuals with Disabilities
  • Members of Indigenous Communities

  • Employees of Socially Responsible Companies

Destinations and Inclusions

The trips will cover Jalisco’s 12 Pueblos Mágicos, Puerto Vallarta, Costalegre, the Los Altos region, Ribera de Chapala, and this year will also include Casimiro Castillo. Additionally, there will be a route from Cuautitlán de García Barragán to Guadalajara’s metropolitan area, allowing the interior community to explore the state capital.

SECTURjal will select program beneficiaries through public lotteries held at public squares and their offices. Prior to this, an online pre-registration will be conducted, with SECTURjal providing digital literacy support for those lacking access or knowledge of digital platforms.
