Background and Relevance
Citlalli Hernández Mora, the Federal Secretary of Women, announced during a morning press conference led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, that the federal government, in collaboration with state-level women’s secretaries, will establish “LIBRE Centers for Women” across the country. These centers aim to provide comprehensive support and empower women by promoting their rights and autonomy in various social spheres, as well as preventing and addressing gender-based violence.
Collaboration and Funding
The federal government has allocated a budget of 754.6 million pesos for this initiative, with state governments contributing to the creation of 678 centers nationwide. The first entity to benefit from this program is Nuevo León.
Nuevo León’s Participation
Samuel García Sepúlveda, the Governor of Nuevo León, joined the press conference via Zoom and expressed his enthusiasm for participating in this program. He assured that the state is prepared to work on these projects, which will eventually be implemented in other federal entities.
“In Nuevo León, we are fully committed and excited to align with these fantastic projects. Our Secretariat of Women is ready to collaborate, and we will set an example for women’s initiatives across the country,” stated García Sepúlveda.
Nuevo León will receive a budget of 20.263 million pesos, enabling the establishment of 17 LIBRE centers in various municipalities.
