Introduction to Fundación GDL 500 and its Relevance

Fundación GDL 500, formerly known as Guadalajara 2020, is a prominent organization in Jalisco, Mexico, dedicated to improving urban development and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The foundation, led by President José Palacios Jiménez, has been instrumental in introducing innovative projects and models to address the city’s challenges.

The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System

José Palacios Jiménez emphasized the importance of implementing a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to improve public transportation in Guadalajara, particularly along the Chapala road. This system connects crucial points such as Tapatío International Airport and the El Salto industrial corridor.

“It’s crucial that things happen swiftly, and a BRT system ensures better mobility for all citizens. I strongly advocate for the construction of a BRT connecting the airport, Chapala, and various existing routes outlined in Jalisco’s State Mobility Plan,” Palacios Jiménez stated.

Fundación GDL 500’s Other Key Projects

In addition to the BRT system, Fundación GDL 500 has two other significant projects aimed at enhancing Guadalajara’s urban landscape:

  • Underground cabling to minimize visual pollution caused by excessive overhead wires.
  • Preventing unauthorized settlements in Bosque La Primavera, a densely populated urban area.

Collaboration with Secretaría de Planeación y Participación Ciudadana

Following a meeting with Cynthia Cantero, the head of the Secretaría de Planeación y Participación Ciudadana (Office of Planning and Citizen Participation), Fundación GDL 500 requested her support in advancing these projects.

“The most critical aspect is having a dedicated liaison to various secretaries, depending on the issues we are addressing,” Palacios Jiménez explained.
