Key Infrastructure Project for Western Mexico’s Busiest Airport
Guadalajara, Jalisco – As part of the Aeropuerto Internacional de Guadalajara’s (GDL) Master Development Plan (PMD) 2025-2029, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) has commenced construction of a new road access for the tapatío airport terminal.
Project Overview
The project involves urbanizing a 17-kilometer roadway, divided into three phases. The first phase, set to be completed in 2026, will consist of a six-kilometer new road connecting Adolf B. Horn Avenue to the airport terminal.
- Phase 1: Six-kilometer new road connecting Adolf B. Horn Avenue to the airport terminal (2026)
- Phase 2: Six-point-two-kilometer distributor road for safe and orderly traffic flow (2027)
- Phase 3: Five-point-two-kilometer new internal roadways directly connecting to passenger boarding and disembarkation points for the future Terminal 2 (2028)
Impact and Benefits
Cryshtian José Amador Lizardi, the airport director, stated: “One of our main challenges has been providing access to the airport for passengers. Today, we begin constructing a long-term solution… This project is part of an integral infrastructure vision that will allow the expansion of western Mexico’s most important airport and one of the country’s key airports.”
Amador Lizardi further emphasized, “Our commitment is to anticipate future needs by offering solutions that strengthen connectivity, efficiency, and travel experience for millions of passengers using the Aeropuerto Internacional de Guadalajara.”
The new road system will feature two main access points: one from Adolf B. Horn Avenue and another via the Chapala road leading to the airport terminal. Additionally, a new exit will be built for future Terminal 2 through an elevated passage over the Chapala road.
These vital roadways will be constructed using high-tech concrete and machinery, ensuring high performance and durability, according to Amador Lizardi.
“Together, this project will reduce traffic on the Chapala road and enhance vehicular connectivity to and from the airport,” he added.
This project is part of GAP’s five-year investment plan of 22 billion pesos for the Aeropuerto Internacional de Guadalajara, which also includes building a new terminal that will increase passenger capacity by 73%, as well as acquiring land reserves to ensure future growth and development of new projects like an additional runway.
