Strengthening Production of Innovative Components for Next-Generation Engines
Monterrey, NL. GE Aerospace plans to invest $55 million in 2025 to enhance its manufacturing capabilities in Hermosillo, Sonora, and Saltillo, Coahuila. The investment aims to bolster manufacturing and increase the use of innovative components and materials for GE Aerospace’s and CFM LEAP’s new-generation engines.
CFM LEAP engines are produced by CFM International, a 50-50 joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines.
“This investment underscores our commitment to improving operations and ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost,” said Jonathan Ruiz, plant leader of GE Aerospace in Hermosillo. The Hermosillo plant joined the GE Aerospace portfolio last year.
Investment Details
The GE Aerospace plant in Hermosillo, which manufactures components for narrow-body aircraft engines, will receive $538.6 million Mexican pesos (approximately $28.8 million USD) for facility modernization. Improvements will include design enhancements, new tooling, and updated processes.
Additionally, the Unison plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, will receive $11.2 million Mexican pesos (approximately $600,000 USD) for high-precision machines, inspection equipment, and tools to strengthen sensor design and production of ignition systems and electrical/mechanical systems used in various aircraft. The Saltillo plant also produces harnesses for GE Aerospace and CFM LEAP engines, as well as ignition components.
“This investment will enable us to better serve our customers and continue producing high-quality components for our engines,” said Rodrigo Castro, Unison Saltillo site leader.
