Mexico’s Plastic Industry Poised for Growth
The plastic industry in Mexico is projected to be one of the sectors with the highest growth potential over the next few years, with the market value expected to rise from 5.2 billion US dollars currently to 8.1 billion US dollars by 2035, despite the challenging tariff environment and global economic hurdles.
Jalisco’s Significance in the Plastic Industry
Amidst this context, Jalisco has emerged as a crucial state for the plastic industry, establishing itself as a central hub for plastic transformation and its application in strategic sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agroindustry, and automotive. Érika Martínez, Director of Plastimagen and Show Director of Informa Markets Mexico, highlighted this to El Economista.
Martínez Ochoa pointed out that Jalisco alone saw Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) exceeding 10 billion US dollars in the plastic sector between 2020 and 2024, a testament to the confidence in the sector and Jalisco as an industrial development pole.
Introducing the Plastimagen Summit Guadalajara
The significance of Jalisco was a key factor in the creation of the first Plastimagen Summit Guadalajara, a new specialized event that extends from Plastimagen, recognized as the most important plastic industry event in Latin America.
“The plastic industry is present in all 32 federal entities, spanning over 268 municipalities across the country, and Guadalajara is one of the most critical points for the sector,” Martínez Ochoa emphasized.
The Plastimagen Summit Guadalajara will take place on February 9th and 10th, designed as a high-level strategic event to bring together industry leaders, machinery manufacturers, specialized buyers, and decision-makers. The aim is to strengthen knowledge exchange, networking, and business opportunities.
The event will feature technical experts, engineers, directors, and CEOs from plastic industry companies, along with attendees from key regions like the Bajío, including states like Aguascalientes and Guanajuato due to their importance in the automotive industry.
Summit Highlights and Speakers
Topics to be addressed include the circular revolution, innovation for a sustainable future, automation, trade, and artificial intelligence use in production process control. The program features a keynote speech by Chris De Armitt, a materials scientist specializing in plastics, who will speak remotely about plastic sustainability.
Additionally, representatives from ECOCE and the National Association of Plastic Industries (ANIPAC) will attend, reinforcing the focus on recycling, sustainability, and circular economy—areas where Mexico ranks among the top 5 countries with the highest recycling rates.
According to ANIPAC’s 2025 Annual Statistical Report, the production value of plastic products in Mexico amounts to 375 billion pesos, representing 3.1% of the manufacturing GDP with a consumption of 6.9 million tons.
Mexico hosts 6,074 plastic industry companies, primarily concentrated in the Central, Bajio, and Pacific regions, generating over a million jobs.
