Overview of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Sales in Mexico
The sale of hybrid and electric vehicles continues to show a positive trend across Mexican states, but the growth rate has moderated. Between January and July of the current year, 76,562 hybrid and electric vehicles were sold in Mexico, marking a 17.4% annual increase, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
However, during the same period in 2024, 65,237 hybrid and electric vehicles were sold, reflecting an 80.2% advance, surpassing this year’s percentage variation.
Annual Growth Variations Among Mexican States
With the sales accumulated from January to July 2025, 29 out of the 32 federal entities experienced annual growth. In contrast, all states saw growth with variations of two to three digits during the same period in 2024.
This year, declines were observed in Nayarit (-18.6%), Sinaloa (-18.3%), and Tabasco (-1.3%). Meanwhile, Chihuahua led with the most significant annual growth of 77.5%, followed by Guanajuato (54.9%), Hidalgo (44.8%), Chiapas (42.5%), and Sonora (42.2%).
Major Cities Drive Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Sales
Four major cities in Mexico account for over half of the sales made during the first seven months of the year. The capital, Mexico City, along with the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, and Jalisco, collectively represent 58% of the total units sold.
Mexico City stands as the primary market for sustainable mobility, with 20,067 hybrid and electric vehicles sold, accounting for 26.2% of the national market.
