Intermoda’s Collaboration with Ethical Fashion Space

To drive a change in the way fashion is produced and consumed, Intermoda’s 83rd edition, which kicked off on Tuesday at Expo Guadalajara, will feature a partnership with Ethical Fashion Space. This collaboration marks Ethical Fashion Space as the first consulting firm in Mexico and Latin America with a system for diagnosing, training, implementing, and evaluating sustainable management for businesses in the fibers, textile, and apparel industries.

“We are excited and proud to announce our alliance with Ethical Fashion Space, a specialized study in textile sustainability that will deliver conferences, workshops, and panels to promote change in fashion production and consumption methods,” said Intermoda’s president, Jorge Castellanos.

“The future of fashion must be responsible; that’s why we are proud to be the first fashion event in Mexico with a sustainability strategy and legacy, overseen by two internationally recognized auditing companies: Movimiento Global de Destinos Sostenibles (GDS-Movement) and Meet4Impact,” Castellanos added.

Key Challenges in the Fashion Industry

According to Mireille Acquart, founder and director of Ethical Fashion Space, fashion companies face significant challenges such as environmental regulations, volatility and scarcity of raw materials, the need for innovation and circularity, new market consumer demands, and an urgency to rethink their business models.

During Intermoda’s 83rd edition, Ethical Fashion Space will host workshops and conferences on textile recycling, responsible consumption, circularity, and other related topics.

“Change doesn’t happen with just a speech or panel; it occurs when the industry encounters new narratives with clear evidence, applicable tools, and most importantly, the courage to question ourselves and embark on a transformation journey,” Acquart expressed.

“When an event like Intermoda decides to increasingly integrate sustainability strategically, alongside many partners, we see a clear sign of leadership,” she emphasized.

Acquart explained that she founded Ethical Fashion Space ten years ago with a clear goal: “to professionalize sustainability in the supply chain while using the language of businesses (…) We have been chosen by Mexican brands like Ferragamo, Patagonia, Inditex México Global, Levi’s, Oggi Jeans, Básicos de México, and various Mexican startups. All of them have entrusted us with guiding them towards their sustainability objectives, developed using this skill to address these challenges.”
