Strategic Focus on Connectivity, Infrastructure, and International Events

According to Mauro Garza Marín, the Coordinator of Economic Growth and Development in Jalisco, the Guadalajara-Madrid flight has proven successful in both tourism and foreign trade, boasting an average occupancy rate of 96% and high demand for cargo transportation.

Successful Air Route and Economic Impact

Garza Marín explained that the route not only connects passengers but also facilitates the exchange of goods between Europe and Jalisco. The state exports products such as avocados, berries, and tequila while importing Spanish goods, including textile cargo linked to Inditex’s distribution center in Jalisco.

  • Inditex, the largest Spanish textile company with brands like Zara, has its distribution center in Jalisco.
  • The flights from Spain carry clothing items and Spanish products like jamón serrano, jamón ibérico, and wines.
  • Jalisco exports aguacate, berries, and tequila to Spain.

This success has prompted the state government to seek new European routes and increased flight frequencies. Potential destinations include strategic markets like Paris and Barcelona, once airlines overcome the current shortage of aircraft.

Soccer World Cup to Boost Tourism

Garza Marín emphasized that sports tourism will be another significant growth driver, as Guadalajara will host World Cup matches this year, attracting hundreds of thousands of national and international visitors.

  • Venues like the Fan Fest in Guadalajara’s city center, Auditorio Benito Juárez, and additional sites in Zapopan, Tlajomulco, and Tlaquepaque are being prepared to accommodate the demand.
  • The Estadio Jalisco has a capacity of 46,000 spectators, but hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected in the cities.
  • The strategy aims to extend visitor stays and encourage exploration of Jalisco’s 12 Magic Towns, as well as key destinations like Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Tequila, to distribute economic impact across the state’s 12 regions.

Growing Tourism Infrastructure

Garza Marín also mentioned that Jalisco is experiencing continuous growth in tourism infrastructure. Currently, 38 new hotels are under construction, along with improvements to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta’s international airports.

“With these 38 additional hotels and our international airports, Jalisco will become a major tourism power,” stated the economic gabinete coordinator.

International Events and Global Recognition

Jalisco is also hosting ITB Americas in Guadalajara, one of the most significant global travel fairs alongside FITUR. This will be the first time the event is held in the Americas, with Jalisco chosen over the United States and Mexico City, further solidifying its ambition to become an international tourism reference.

Through air connectivity, global events, and robust hotel expansion, Jalisco aims to establish itself not only as a tourism destination but also as a genuine economic powerhouse driven by tourism.
