Introduction to Oaxaca’s Connectivity Improvement Plan
Oaxaca, a Mexican state known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, is set to enhance its ground and air connectivity through rehabilitation and modernization projects. Carlos Vichido Hernández, the head of the State Infrastructure and Communications Secretariat (SIC), announced this initiative as part of the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río General Plan.
Government Collaboration for Regional Development
This joint effort between the state and federal governments aims to improve connections among regional communities, thereby stimulating economic, social, and cultural growth in Oaxaca. As part of this plan, over 1,000 kilometers of roads in the Mixteca region will undergo conservation and expansion, with an investment exceeding 5,900 million pesos, managed by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) of the Mexican Government.
Road Rehabilitation Projects
In 2025, approximately 425 kilometers of roads will be addressed with an investment of 1,367 million pesos. These projects include crucial sections of federal highways 190 and 125 along routes such as Nochixtlán–Huajuapan de León, Chazumba–Huajuapan de León, Huajuapan–Tlacotepec–Juxtlahuaca–El Carrizal–Putla Villa de Guerrero, and Putla de Guerrero–Pinotepa Nacional.
Under the National Conservation Plan, 145 kilometers of the Yucudaa–Putla de Guerrero stretch will be maintained, along with the construction of the Juxtlahuaca bridge. Additionally, the Pochutla–Huatulco road segment will be expanded as part of the Salina Cruz–Zihuatanejo connection project, with an investment of 1,309 million pesos.
Air Connectivity Enhancements
Oaxaca’s International Airport in Puerto Escondido is also set for remodeling and expansion. The project includes paving 150,000 square meters of the runway and expanding the platform to 11 positions. These improvements will significantly boost the airport’s operational and tourism capacity, further benefiting Oaxaca’s growth.
