Background on the Situation

Querétaro, Qro. From January to September, Querétaro saw the sale of 26,656 new vehicles, resulting in a 0.5% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA).

With this level of sales, Querétaro ranked ninth among the 32 federal entities, contributing 2.5% to the national scenario.

Monthly Sales Trends

  • In September, 2,882 zero-kilometer vehicles were sold, marking a 2.4% decrease from September 2024.
  • Following a 6.2% recovery in July, the market experienced a 4.8% decline in August and now a 2.4% drop in September.

Reasons for the Decline

The AMDA Querétaro president, Laura Rodríguez Miranda, attributes the accumulated decline to uncertainty within the automotive industry this year due to the U.S. tariff policy and the upcoming review of the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement).

“We’ve seen a decrease of 0.5% compared to the same period in 2024, which is a result of this uncertainty we’ve experienced throughout 2025, including the review of the U.S.-Canada-Mexico trade agreement,” she explained.

Querétaro’s Position in the Market

Despite these challenges, Rodríguez Miranda highlighted Querétaro’s continued presence among the top ten states for auto sales in Mexico.

  • With only 80 dealerships in Querétaro compared to 200 in Jalisco, the state’s performance is noteworthy.

Moreover, the automotive distribution sector significantly contributes to Querétaro’s local economy, generating annual contributions of 2.5 billion pesos in state taxes and contributions.

Vehicle Sales Composition

Of the 26,656 new vehicles sold in the first nine months of the year, 57% (15,191 units) are multipurpose vehicles and trucks.
