Querétaro, Qro. The capital of Querétaro state has achieved a hotel occupancy rate of 56.7% in the first 22 weeks of 2025, according to data from the federal Secretaría de Turismo (SECTUR).
Ranking Among Interior Cities
With this level of demand, Querétaro City placed itself as the sixth interior city with the highest occupancy rate. The top five cities were Pachuca (68.1%), Hermosillo (65.7%), Chihuahua (58.2%), Mérida (57.4%), and Puebla (57%).
Comparison with National Average
Querétaro City’s occupancy rate surpassed the national average of 47% during the first five months of 2025, as reported by the Sector Turismo de México’s National Statistics Information System (DATATUR).
Hotel Room Availability and Occupancy
As of week 22, Querétaro City reported an average of 7,208 available rooms per day, reflecting a yearly decrease of 2.9%. The city also recorded 4,085 occupied rooms, indicating a yearly decrease of 5.4%.
These reductions translated into a 1.5 percentage point decrease in hotel occupancy, as the occupancy rate was 58.2% in 2024 compared to 56.7% this year.
Third Highest Demand Among Interior Cities
In week 22 alone, the municipality of Querétaro achieved a 64.19% occupancy rate, placing it third among interior cities with the highest percentage.
- Puebla topped the list with a 72% occupancy rate.
- Colima followed closely with a 64.22% occupancy rate.
Chihuahua and Toluca occupied the fourth and fifth positions with 63.4% and 60.7% occupancy rates, respectively.
Conversely, the five cities with the lowest occupancy rates in week 22 were Taxco (4.7%), San Cristóbal de las Casas (17.4%), Comitán de Domínguez (18.8%), Valle de Bravo (19.7%), and Salamanca (23.2%).
During that week, interior cities averaged a 48.3% occupancy rate, experiencing an annual growth of 5.8 percentage points.
However, the accumulated occupancy rate for 2025 was 47%, which is 0.7 percentage points lower than the same period in 2024.
Occupancy Distribution Across Different City Types
By week 22, coastal cities had an occupancy rate of 68.9%, while interior cities averaged 51.4%. Frontier cities reached 62.5%, large cities 54.9%, and interior cities 47%.
