Government’s Role and Objectives
Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development (SEDSU), expressed the state’s goal to transition towards a circular and low-emission economy.
“We have been working to reduce emissions through the circular economy, reusing waste, and we have managed to involve 385 companies or institutions through 437 circular economy initiatives… These initiatives have allowed us to generate savings for companies exceeding 1,000 million pesos, but the real value lies in their environmental impact,” Del Prete Tercero stated.
SECQ System and Its Impact
Coordinated by the Querétaro Automotive Cluster and SEDSU, the system has established 39 circular economy mechanisms and trained 721 people in this area.
- Economic savings
- Resource savings: 3 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to the annual consumption of 14,000 households;
- 30,000 GWh of energy, equivalent to the consumption of 15,000 households;
- Reduction of nearly 1 million tons of CO2, equivalent to the annual emissions of 202,275 cars.
“The projects proposed by companies, these 437 initiatives, will allow for savings of 747,000 tons of materials and waste during the project’s lifetime. This is equivalent to what nearly 2 million people produce. It’s an effort we’ve made through environmental policies to promote economic development and improve quality of life,” Del Prete Tercero added.
Understanding Circular Economy
According to SECQ, the circular economy involves implementing a new, non-linear circular economy based on closing the life cycle of products, services, waste, materials, water, and energy.
The state aims to reduce the CO2 emission growth rate, which currently stands at 8% for 2027.
