Overview of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Sales in Querétaro

Querétaro, Qro. The sales of hybrid and electric vehicles increased annually by 12.6% in the first four months of 2025, according to records from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

From January to April 2025, a total of 947 units were sold, surpassing the 841 units sold during the same period in 2024.

Breakdown by Vehicle Type

By vehicle type, plug-in hybrid vehicles saw the most significant growth at 24.4%, followed by hybrid vehicles with a 14.4% increase and electric vehicles with a 2.6% rise.

Out of the total sales accumulated from January to April 2025, hybrid vehicles accounted for 68.7%, electric vehicles contributed 21%, and plug-in hybrid vehicles made up 10.2%.

Although Querétaro reported a 12.6% annual increase in the first quarter for hybrid and electric vehicles, this growth was lower than the 151.8% annual growth seen in the same period of the previous year.

Historical Sales Trends

From January to April 2023, Querétaro had 334 hybrid and electric vehicle purchases. In the same period of 2024, this number rose to 841 units, and in 2025, it increased further to 947 sales.

With a 12.6% annual growth rate, Querétaro ranked fifth among the entities with the most moderate growth in hybrid and electric vehicle sales during the first quarter.

National Trends and Comparison

Among the 32 federal entities, 30 experienced annual growth, while Sinaloa and Nayarit saw decreases of -14.5% and -23.5%, respectively.

Nationally, hybrid and electric vehicle sales increased by 25.6% in the first three quarters of the year.

The primary market for sustainable mobility vehicles in Mexico is the Greater Mexico City area, which accounts for 25.9% of all nationwide purchases.

Other leading markets include the State of Mexico (13.7%), Nuevo León (9.9%), Jalisco (8%), Guanajuato (4.6%), Puebla (3.4%), Yucatán (2.8%), Veracruz (2.7%), Chihuahua (2.4%), and Querétaro (2.2%).

States with the lowest sales, having less than 1% of hybrid and electric vehicle partitions, include Nayarit, Guerrero, Zacatecas, Campeche, Durango, Tlaxcala, Baja California Sur, Tabasco, Colima, and Oaxaca.
