Objective: Increase Distribution Channels for Queretaro’s MSMEs

Querétaro, Qro. With the aim of enhancing the placement of Queretaro’s local products, strategies are being developed to help micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) diversify their distribution channels.

Secretary of Sustainable Development’s Plan

Marco Antonio Del Prete, the Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu), announced that a box containing Queretaro-made products will be created, featuring 8 to 10 local suppliers. These products may include wine, jam, cookies, coffee, and more.

Collaborating with Mercado Libre, Sedesu is working on establishing a marketplace for Queretaro’s products. This strategy could also be implemented with Amazon.

“We are creating a collection of Queretaro products that can be efficiently distributed in small boxes, showcasing limited editions of Queretaro products. These boxes will have a special presentation to distinguish products made in Queretaro,” Del Prete shared.

The promotion of these product boxes is expected to begin soon, targeting the holiday season. This initiative aims to extend the lifespan of businesses and increase their chances of survival by entering a retail chain.

MSMEs to Participate in Chedraui Fair

In this context, registration opened for MSMEs to participate in the Queretaro product fair at Chedraui during the first quarter of 2023. This will be the third fair held in the state.

Sedesu, Chedraui, and the Competitiveness Center of Mexico (CCMX) are collaborating on this project to develop local suppliers and expand their distribution channels.

On August 7th and 8th, local brands can register for the upcoming business meeting. CCMX and Chedraui will then select 20-30 companies for further consideration before the Queretaro fair.

Currently, 300 companies are registered, and 20-30 will be chosen for follow-up until they can participate in the fair. Chedraui has over 50 purchase requirements, including agricultural and perishable goods.

Success with Local Providers

Claudia Solano Doblado, Senior Buyer at Chedraui, explained that the brand aims to support both local and national producers to diversify their supply sources.

“The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the vulnerability of global supply chains. Chedraui believes it’s time to rely not only on local but also national suppliers. This will ensure our success in situations like the recent shortages faced by global providers,” Solano Doblado stated.

Currently, Queretaro producers selling in Chedraui generate monthly sales of 1 million pesos in the state. Queretaro is among the most successful states, alongside Mérida, where monthly sales reach 2 million pesos.

Chedraui replicates these product fairs in other states, such as Puebla, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, Yucatán, and more.
