Introduction to the Initiative
The State of Mexico has initiated a mobile strategy called “Caravanas de Economía Social y Empleo” (Social Economy and Employment Caravans) to stimulate regional economic growth in municipalities far from major urban centers. The first caravan of the year is scheduled for January 29 in Amecameca, benefiting the Volcanes region.
Objective and Structure
These caravens aim to activate the productive capabilities of each region by providing services, advice, training, and financing. The initial edition will serve 15 municipios in the Volcanes region, including Amecameca, Ayapango, Chalco, Cocotitlán, Ecatzingo, Ixtapaluca, Juchitepec, La Paz, Ozumba, Temamatla, Tenancingo, Tepetlixpa, Tlalmanalco, and Valle de Chalco Solidaridad.
Relevance of the Initiative
Alejandro Razo, Director of the Instituto Mexiquense del Emprendedor (IME), explained that this strategy was developed in response to the “significant economic complexity and the various faces and nuances of the State of Mexico’s regions.”
Diagnostic Process
To diagnose how to boost local economies, the IME will hold meetings with key stakeholders in each territory. These gatherings will take place at public squares, markets, and other exchange locations.
Selection of the Volcanes Region
Felipe Ocampo, Director of Regional Development at IME, mentioned that the Volcanes region was chosen for the caravan’s launch due to “constant requests from mayors, legislators, and territory actors for information and resources. This caravan of social economy and employment is the response to these requests.”
Caravan Details and Future Plans
Each caravan is expected to attract approximately 750 to 1,000 participants, with events lasting from 9 AM to 4 PM. The strategy will be implemented monthly, typically on the last Thursday of each month, with adjustments in November and December following the Amecameca launch.
- The second caravan is scheduled for February in the southern region of the State of Mexico.
- The third caravan will take place in March, focusing on the metropolitan area, specifically Naucalpan.
Participant Registration and Post-Caravan Evaluation
IME has a system to register participants, with a strong emphasis on implementing acquired knowledge. Post-caravan academic assessments will be conducted to outline strategic routes based on each region’s unique realities.
