Introduction to the Veracruz Road Infrastructure Plan
Rocío Nahle García, the governor of Veracruz, unveiled the State Road Infrastructure Plan for fiscal year 2025. This ambitious plan aims to modernize, rehabilitate, and maintain roads and highways stretching from the northern to southern regions of Veracruz. The total investment exceeds 2,537 million pesos.
Details of the Plan
Leonardo Cornejo Serrano, the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) in Veracruz, elaborated on the plan during a press conference. The program will address 935 kilometers of roads, with 290.83 km being federal stretches and 644.82 km part of the state network.
Prioritized Interventions
Under a collaboration agreement with the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), 1,074 million pesos will be allocated for interventions in priority zones. Key projects include:
- Modernizing the Tempoal–Pánuco section of highway 127, expanding it to three lanes with shoulders.
- Improving the Gutiérrez Zamora–Tecolutla stretch of highway 180.
- Upgrading the Huejutla–Platón Sánchez section of highway 105.
- Expanding the Coatzacoalcos–Aeropuerto de Minatitlán stretch to four lanes.
- Developing access from Coatzacoalcos to Nuevo Teapa.
- Maintaining the Acayucan–Sayula de Alemán highway.
State Network Interventions
Thirty-four actions are planned for the state network, ranging from complete reconstruction to resurfacing and signage. Notable projects include:
- Reconstructing the Coyutla–Puebla border route.
- Upgrading the Huayacocotla–Tulancingo route.
- Improving the Chicontepec–San Sebastián route.
- Developing the Santiago Tuxtla–Ciudad Isla route, including a new bridge.
- Upgrading the Totutla–Camarón de Tejeda route.
- Rehabilitating the Las Matas and Las Choapas–Cerro de Nanchital routes.
Local Developments
In the Veracruz–Boca del Río conurbation, road resurfacing works will take place on Avenida Miguel Alemán between the Cabeza Olmeca interchange and Paseo de la Armada. Additionally, drainage ditch cleaning, LED light installation, and road signage are planned.
Stadium Improvements
Cornejo Serrano also announced corrective actions at the “Pirata” Fuente Stadium. These involve modifying the structural design to enhance field visibility from the stands. No additional costs will be incurred by the state government, as these adjustments will be funded by the stadium’s responsible entrepreneurs.
