Generative AI: A Global Reality Transforming Industrial Operations

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not a futuristic promise for the manufacturing sector but a present reality revolutionizing industrial operations worldwide. According to a report by digital consultancy NTT DATA, 95% of manufacturers who have adopted this technology report that it has directly improved their efficiency and economic results.

Bottlenecks Facing Manufacturers

Despite the enthusiasm, manufacturers face structural challenges. 92% identify outdated infrastructure as a serious obstacle to scaling generative AI initiatives, though less than half have assessed their readiness. Cybersecurity is another concern; 88% fear AI-related risks, but only 18% of CISOs believe their organizations have adequate protection frameworks.

Regarding talent, two-thirds of companies admit their workforce lacks preparation for working with this technology. Only half are actively investing in training programs. While 81% considers internal capabilities for developing AI strategies crucial, only 44% agrees that their IT and operations teams collaborate effectively on this matter.

Strategy and Ethics

The integration of generative AI cannot be approached solely from a technological perspective. The NTT DATA report states that 99% of executives consider it important for their organizations to have strategic advisory to balance innovation and responsibility.

However, only 47% assures having solid frameworks to balance risk and value, and merely 45% regularly reviews the impact of these technologies on user experience.

The gap between ambition and responsible implementation is evident. 76% of companies still lack a formal policy on AI use by employees.
