The ICT Competition 2025 by Huawei
Four Mexicans, including three students and one professor from the Universidad Anáhuac campus Oaxaca, are participating in the ICT Competition 2025 hosted by Huawei in Shenzhen, China. The team, comprising Estefanía Vasconcelos Pérez, Alejandro Cinco Prieto, Luis Daniel Acevedo Herrera, and Professor Josué Gregorio Aguilar García, will now face teams from around the globe.
Journey to the Finals
Their journey began a year ago when they saw another team from their university participate in this competition. Inspired by that experience, they decided to register and start preparing.
Competition Stages
- The first stage was an internal competition within their university, where they competed against other teams in theoretical network tests, data transmission security, and wireless communication.
- After passing this preliminary phase, they advanced to the national level, competing against teams from other Mexican universities such as UNAM, IPN, and UAM.
- Ranking among the top in Mexico, they proceeded to the Latin American regional phase, which included teams from across Latin America. The Mexican team excelled, securing the second place and gaining access to the global final.
Participants must face theoretical exams and simulated lab tests across four categories: networks, computing, cloud, and artificial intelligence.
Preparation
Luis Daniel Acevedo Herrera emphasized the intensity of their preparation: “We know the tests will be challenging, but we’ve reviewed all topics and feel backed by our training from both our professor and Huawei instructors,” he said.
Professor Josué Gregorio Aguilar García’s support has been crucial to the team’s success.
“It’s an honor to be here in China with them. This is a true testament to what can be achieved in Mexico, despite the limitations faced in certain regions of the country. They’ve competed against the best Mexican universities and have demonstrated their capabilities,” said Aguilar García.
Huawei’s support, both in terms of content and logistics, has been vital for the Mexican team’s presence at this global event.
The competition holds significant symbolic value, showcasing the potential of young Mexicans in technology despite challenges like resource scarcity in some parts of the country. The previous team, which participated last year and secured third place, has also offered advice and support to the current competitors.
“They’ve given us many tips on tackling the tests, managing travel uncertainties, and handling expenses and logistics for an event of this caliber. Their experience is incredibly valuable to us,” said Alejandro Cinco Prieto.
Upcoming Events
The opening ceremony took place on May 20, and the tests are about to commence. The final competition results will be announced during the awards ceremony and closing on May 24.
